Now that printing systems other than letterpress are well known, such as gravure, lithographic or flexographic printing, applicants believe that the use of flexographic printing systems for cigarette making machines has never been proposed before. This is because most flexographic printing systems are slow to operate. For example, the envelope printing system in US Pat. No. 5,088,407 operates at a slower speed than a cigarette maker, while label printers for pressure-sensitive adhesive labels typically operate at speeds up to 200 m/min, while US Pat. No. 5,413,041 uses The high-speed web-fed flexographic press for printing books operates at speeds of up to 5 m/sec (300 m/min), while the production speed of the cigarette maker is about 600 m/min. With printing systems such as those currently offered by GD Spa and Hauni, high quality printing at such speeds has not been possible until now.

Flexographic printing is known to be used in some newspaper printing systems, and its production speed is quite high, which can meet the speed required by the cigarette manufacturing industry, which is said to be 600m/min, but its printing press system and its cylinders have a length of about 2 meters. width. In contrast, label printers using flexographic printing systems operate at speeds less than or approximately equal to 200 m/min. The printing cylinder of this system is usually about 150mm-300mm wide.

Although the label printing system is much smaller than the newspaper printing system, the cylinder size of the flexographic printing system of the cigarette machine is smaller. A machine running a single pass requires a drum width of up to 40mm, preferably 20-35mm, while a double pass machine requires a drum width of 35-60mm, preferably 45-55mm. As far as we know, no one has proposed or made such a small, high-speed flexographic printing system, nor does it know how well such a system has been tested.
