At present, many printers engaged in color reproduction do not know much about gray balance. Gray balance refers to the density values of blue, yellow and white needed to produce neutral gray. High or low values of these values will cause the color shift of the entire image. The following is a brief analysis of the neutral gray balance in color printing.
Neutral gray is a three-dimensional color space, neutral gray has no hue, saturation, only brightness variable. In plate making and printing, neutral gray balance is used as a measure of the appropriate proportion of three primary color ink in plate making and printing. Balance control factors affecting the balance of neutral gray are: color characteristics of ink, the proportion of three primary colors, paper performance, printing conditions, etc.
First, neutral gray balance of ink requirements
1, high transparency: ink coated into a uniform film, withstand the ink film of the substance of the background color, the more clear the background color display, the higher the transparency of the ink; 2, fine pigment particles: printing high-grade exquisite products to fine pigment particles; 3, strong coloring force: the coloring force of ink is a quantity that represents the color intensity or concentration of ink. For the same hue of ink, coloring force depends on the dispersion of pigment in the binder, the higher the dispersion, the stronger the coloring force; Also depends on the content of the pigment, the higher the content, the stronger the coloring power; 4, light resistance: the pigment under the action of light, its color will change color in different degrees, fade, which is light resistance characteristics; 5, high color efficiency: color efficiency is a comprehensive index of ink color difference and gray scale; 6, good chemical stability: ink color under the action of some chemical substances will change, therefore, the ink is required to have better chemical stability, water resistance, acid and alkali resistance, ethanol resistance and other properties.
Two, paper performance and neutral gray balance relationship

Paper whiteness, smoothness, absorption, glossiness, opacity and pH are also important factors affecting gray balance.
