Color mechanism of Kraft Flower Boxes
According to the knowledge of color science, color has three attributes, namely hue, brightness and saturation. The ever-changing color is presented by the arrangement and combination of different hues, different lightness and different saturation. Therefore, if the introduction of the dot can make the print produce color changes in hue, brightness, saturation, it can produce kaleidoscope of colors corresponding to the original manuscript.
As shown in Figure 1-8, in the same unit area, print the same yellow, if the dot coverage in the unit area accounted for 10%, the color seen by the human eye is like 90% of white ink and 10% of yellow ink mixed color, is a very light yellow, that is, high brightness, low saturation. If the dot coverage rate is 90% in the unit area, the color seen by the human eye is like the color presented by the mixture of 10% white ink and 90% yellow ink, which is a darker yellow. Compared with the previous one, the brightness decreases and the saturation increases. It can be seen that after the introduction of dot, the change of dot coverage results in the change of color brightness and saturation.
The change of brightness and saturation of color only reflects the change of vertical and horizontal in the color stereo, and does not produce the change of color connection on the circumference. In other words, there are still only eight shades on paper. But each hue has a change in brightness and saturation, then, how is the color change on the printed matter achieved? This is because the color light reflected on the printed matter produces a additive color effect when it reaches the human eye (color light additive color method), which causes a change in hue.
Additive color effect is the result of the juxtaposition of dots. Because the distance between the dots is very small, for a 60-line /cm network cable, the number of dots per square millimeter area is 36. With so many outlets in such a small area, the human eye is unable to distinguish. As a result, several colors of light reflected from printed matter to the human eye hit the retina in almost the same place. According to the additive color mixing of different color light, a new color is produced. If the dot coverage of the two colors is the same, the hue of the juxtaposition is close to the hue of the overlapping color. Taking Figure 1-9 (a) as an example, if the dot coverage of yellow and magenta is close, the color of the parallel color is close to the overlapping color of yellow and magenta, while figure (b) shows that: because the dot coverage of yellow is greater than that of magenta, the parallel color produces a new color containing magenta close to yellow. Figure (c) shows the yellow hue approaching magenta. It can be seen that if the dot coverage of the two colors is different, the hue of the juxtaposition color is biased to the one with the highest coverage. Of course, when the dot is juxtaposed, in addition to the reflected color light of the dot layer, there is also the reflected light of the white paper part to participate in the additive color mixing. The amount of color light in the white paper part depends on the dot coverage.
Therefore, the mechanism of dot color is the application of color subtractive method and color light plus color method, and through the change and combination of dot coverage, the printed color changes in hue, brightness and saturation, thus presenting ever-changing colors.
