Custom Printing Books in China Prepress Typesetting course knowledge summary
CorelDRAW is a powerful comprehensive software package, with graphics drawing, image processing, web production, printing typesetting, cartoon animation and other functions.
One of the most widely used places of CorelDRAW in China is applied to the pre-work of printing and typesetting of publications, commonly known as pre-press work. Although this is only a part of the function of CorelDRAW, but because we are dealing with other work, we will call other software accordingly habitually, such as image processing we will immediately use Photoshop, Web pages will use Dreamweaver, processing animation will use Flash and so on; So here, I will take a small card as an example, from the layout of the graphics to the drawing of the knife mold diagram for a simple introduction.
Mosaic work:
Before printing and typesetting, we must first carry out some analysis of the work object, such as what paper to use, what printing machine to prepare, what process to use, whether to carry out what art processing or what special process and so on. I'll leave that out for the sake of space.
1, Open the CorelDRAW software, the system will automatically create a "Figure 1" file.
2. Select the fifth Rectangle tool from the left toolbox and draw a rectangle of any size in the blank space next to the paper specified by the system. Then change the size to 125 x 185mm in the properties toolbar (the finished product size will be 120 x 175mm after folding in half)
3. Use the selection tool to select the rectangle just drawn, hold down the Ctrl key and drag the rectangle to the left with the mouse. When a rectangle box identical to the original rectangle appears on the screen, hold down the right button and press the left button, that is, another rectangle identical to the original rectangle appears to the left of the original rectangle.
4. Put a processed image in the right box and the company information in the bottom half of the left box. Form a card pattern.
5. Select all the objects on the card and press CTRL-G or Group under the "Arrange" menu. Group objects into one object. In order to facilitate the operation of subsequent projects.
6, select the pick tool, draw a rectangle in a blank place, adjust the size to 546 x 787mm (positive degree followed-out paper size, to represent the paper).
7. Draw another rectangle in the frame of the folloin paper, with the size of 526 x 777mm (5mm bleeding position is left on the upper and lower sides, 15mm bite position is left on the left side, 5mm bleeding position is left on the right side, which indicates that this is the printing core, that is, the effective printing area). Select both rectangles and select "Alignment and Distribution" in the "Arrangement" menu. In the pop-up dialog box, check "right" for the horizontal item and "Middle" for the vertical item to align the two rectangles.
8. Because after the previous step, the right sides of the two rectangles are close together, but we require a distance of 5mm from each other, so it needs to be adjusted. If adjusted manually, its position is not accurate enough. Select the "Pick" tool, make sure that no object is selected, and adjust the distance on the properties toolbar to 5mm, then select the 526 x 777mm rectangle, press the left arrow, this rectangle is 5mm away from the other rectangle, so that there is 5mm bleeding on the right side of the paper.
9. Because the final size of the card is 120 x 175mm after folding in half, plus the bleeding position, the full size of the design is 250 x 185mm. Now all we have to do is put the cards on the paper. Select the grouped cards, then select the inner box on the paper, select "Alignment and Distribution" in the "Arrangement" menu, check "left" for the horizontal items and "up" for the vertical items, and align the cards with the upper left corner of the inner box. Select the card, copy and paste it, and then adjust the rotation to 180 in the properties bar to flip it so that the two cards face each other. Adjust the fine-tuning distance of 250mm, select the card pasting, press the right direction arrow, and the two cards will become the arrangement of patterns on patterns. This method is called "head to head" Mosaic method.
Because of the relationship between temperature and humidity when printing, the paper is often caused by the expansion and deformation of the paper. In order to minimize the occurrence of inaccurate sets due to this reason, we should try to put the complex part of the pattern or color close to the bite position. After the first row is arranged, then call the "Transform" option in the "Arrange" menu. In the dialog box that appears, set the vertical distance to the height of the cards to 185mm, because we want to shift them down, so set it to -185mm. Then select two cards and press "Apply to remade object", and each press will copy a pair of cards down. And the location is also very accurate. After pressing it three times, four pairs of eight cards appeared on the page, and there was no more paper to fill.
At this point, the Mosaic is complete. Although there are some waste paper, this situation is inevitable. If we want to reduce the waste of paper, we can first budget with pen and paper before setting the plate. For example, in this example, the printing surface size of the card after setting the eight mold is 500 x 740mm, and the followed-off size of the positive paper is 546 x 787mm. The folio layout of large degree paper is 597 x 889mm, and the folio size of special degree paper is 444 x 634mm. Obviously, the waste of other paper seems to be greater, so it is appropriate to use positive degree paper.
Drawing of knife pattern
The completion of the Mosaic does not mean the end of the typesetting work, we also have another very important work - the drawing of the knife mold diagram.
After the printing process is complete, each print has to be divided into finished products, such as the above Mosaic example, which has to be divided into eight finished cards. In the segmentation can not be used to cut scissors, we have to make another version - knife template. Of course, in general printing plants, it is not necessary to do their own knife mold, just need to draw the knife mold line, and then send it to the knife mold factory, by the knife mold factory to make the knife version, and then take it back to the beer machine to beer pressure, and then pick off the paper edge and put it in order to hand over to the customer.
The drawing of the knife mold line is completed on the basis of the printed version. In fact, it is to draw the line of the actual size of the finished product on the page containing the bleeding position (without filling in the color). Let's start the drawing of the knife mold line:
1. The size of the finished card we set above is 120 x 175mm after folding in half, and 250 x 185mm after unfolding (including bleeding).
2. Use the Rectangle tool to draw a rectangle with the size of 239 x 175mm. Select the rectangle and then select the card in the upper left corner of the printing plate. Press "C" to align vertically and press "E" to align horizontally. Set the tweak distance to 0.5mm, select the rectangle, and press the right arrow to move it 0.5mm to the right (because the rectangle is shrunk, if we don't move it 0.5mm, we will have 5.5mm of bleeding on each side, but our goal is to have 5mm bleeding on the right and 6mm bleeding on the left). Select the Baez Curve Tool, draw a line with a vertical height of 175mm and align it vertically to the right of the rectangle, adjust the fine tuning value to 120mm, select the vertical line and press the left arrow. The vertical line divides the rectangle into 120mm on the right and 119mm on the left. Here, the front side is divided into 120mm, and the back side is set to 119mm, because it is afraid of the back side exceeding the front side because of the inaccurate set after the beer pressure. After the processing of 1-2mm reduction, the finished product will not worry about the defect of backless (that is, the paper on the back can be seen from the front side of the card).
3. Select the rectangle (border is set as a solid line, indicating that it needs to be cut off) and the vertical line (border is set as a dashed line, indicating only indentation but not cut off) and group them into one object. Call the "Deformation" dialog box in "Arrangement", set the vertical value to -185mm and the horizontal value to 0 in the "Position" item, and then click "Apply to re-made object" three times. The left card knife mold line is basically completed; Select the four newly created rectangles, set the horizontal value of 249mm and the vertical item to 0 in the "Transform" dialog box, and then click "Apply to Re-made Object" to copy the other four tool mold lines. Remove the eight card patterns and the rectangles previously used to set the bite and bleeding positions, leaving only eight rectangles on the paper.
At this point, the printing plate and the knife template are completed, the follow-up work is to produce the film, the normal printing of green, magentam, yellow, black four color pieces plus a knife mold piece, if you want to print other what process can be according to the need of another piece. Because the film and plate are part of the work of the version room, the pre-press work is over. (The bleeding set here is 5mm on the upper and lower sides, adding up to a total of 10mm bleeding, this is because the large sheet of paper printing should take care of the paper may be due to the relationship between temperature and humidity, resulting in the expansion and deformation of the set or cut sleeve position is not accurate. 3mm bleeding is in the case of no way, the general use of 5mm better. Generally, we usually use 3mm bleeding for design, but if the paper is thick or packaging, I suggest using 5mm bleeding, but it is better to make the bleeding cutting line by yourself, because the output company is used to help you add 3mm cutting line. This Mosaic IS TO TRY not to waste PAPER, regular OCTAves of paper printing, we provide such film to people, if not Mosaic, we have to export a few copies of the film, let the printing house to Mosaic.
Mosaic page order talk
First of all, some commonly used formats are introduced: the size is based on the grand sixteen (210╳285mm) as an example, and the size of the Mosaic is grand four. Due to limited time, corner lines and clipping lines are not indicated here, only the page mode of Mosaic is provided.
First, from the simplest leaflet, the single side introduction: the large 16 open size of a single page is usually 216mmx291mm (including bleeding), and the four open size after Mosaic is 432x582mm (including bleeding).

Forty pages open in folio, the first four folded hands for the big flip, the last for the small flip. In addition to the size of the 16, the layout style is exactly the same as the 16.
The method of folding: the folding needs 8P or 16P. Generally speaking, 8P is often used in the way of wireless booking, and 16P is often used in the way of locking line booking (large album). The P number of picture books and books is generally a multiple of 4, so we often only need to do one (main paste) to two (special paste) when making folding samples. I have seen a large company make a more than 100 P picture book, using a lot of A4 paper, all the page numbers are folded out of a waste, not necessary. In normal folding, remember that no matter how you fold, the bottom right corner is the first page.
Binding. General points riding set, flat set, lock line binding, wireless binding. Our common magazines use riding subscription; Wire bound book category, wire bound category belongs to flat binding; Stitching is often used in large picture books, firm, but the binding speed is slow; Wireless binding is often used in high-grade small picture books, too thick books in multiple fold easy to degumming.
