Whether the paper can be successfully used for printing with high quality depends on the printability of the paper. Printing requirements for paper are: the hue of the paper as far as possible to achieve the color and purity of the same texture, the dust degree of the paper shall not exceed the allowed range, the minimum transmittance of the paper, and ensure the mechanical strength of normal printing, the thickness of the paper, the tightness, the structural characteristics and so on must remain the same in the same printing batch, the paper edge should be right Angle and the slope error should not exceed ±3mm.


Paper smoothness: The smoothness of the paper directly determines the printing quality of the printed matter. When printing, the paper with high smoothness can better contact with the layout, so that the ink layer on the printing plate can be evenly transferred to the paper. The paper with low smoothness will cause the uneven contact between the layout and the surface of the paper when printing, so that the ink layer is transferred to the paper. Such as the paper with low smoothness, It can increase the pressure when printing properly and make up for the appearance of imprinting deficiency due to the uneven surface.


Paper ink absorption: paper to ink absorption, mainly depends on the tightness between the fibers of the paper (the size of the gap). When the space between the paper fibers is small, there are too few broomized fibers, so that the effect of the fiber capillary is affected, resulting in the paper ink absorption is reduced. If the gap between the paper fibers is too large, it will cause the ink pigment to be absorbed by the absorption of too much connecting material, so that the printed matter appears the phenomenon of printing through.


Paper elasticity and plasticity: paper in storage, printing and other processes, because of the surrounding environment will change. If under the action of external force, will instantaneously change their shape and size, and when the external force stops, the paper will return to the original shape and size, this deformation process is called sensitive elastic deformation; When the paper by external forces in a regular interval to change their shape and size, the external force to stop the action is slowly restored to the original shape and size, this deformation process is called elastic deformation; When the external force is cancelled, the paper remains in the state of shape and size deformation caused by the external force, known as plastic deformation. Sensitive elastic deformation and elastic deformation are reversible deformation, while plastic deformation is irreversible deformation.


Surface strength of paper: The surface strength of paper determines the wear resistance, powder loss resistance and flaring resistance of the surface of paper during printing. Printing in order to get a more clear dot, will use some high viscosity ink, if the surface strength of the paper is not enough, it will be easy to drop powder, hair, and adhere to the surface of the version; If the use of low viscosity ink, in lithography printing, because of the ink and moistening liquid emulsion, resulting in the blank place of the plate dirty.


Water content of paper: the water content of paper directly affects the quality of the printed matter. If the water content is too much, the strength of the paper will be reduced. Under the action of external force, the paper fiber will be pulled out, so that the plastic deformation will be enhanced, and the drying speed of the imprinting will be affected; If the water content is too little, the paper will be brittle, easy to cause damage, static electricity and so on. Because the water content of paper has a great correlation with the surrounding environment, the humidity and temperature of the printing room should be properly arranged to maintain the balance of the water content of the paper.
