How should designers pre-check Hardcover Books For Gifts
After receiving the output file from the customer, the professional output center will check the file first and then release the film. If the error is found, it will generally be disposed of for the customer. But in doing so, the client does not know that they have made mistakes in the design, and that they may make the same mistakes the next time. There are also some output centers in order to avoid responsibility and unwilling to modify for customers, only to do follow-up checks and output Settings on the file.
In order to ensure that the output is correct, it is necessary for the designer to pre-check the files before the output.
The contents of the check generally include the following:
First, whether to bring all relevant documents
After the design and production work is completed, format files and other output related files are saved to the same folder, commonly known as "packaging". The complete package should include:
① Formal output, in the typesetting software or graphics software to produce good format files.
② All image files processed in Photoshop and used in layout files. Because some group version software needs to link the image processing, it needs to provide the corresponding high-precision image.
JPG or PDF format file for screen proof.
④ Other descriptive files, usually text files or Word files.
2. Whether the document Settings are correct
In the design, printing and output process often involves the page size, plate size (i.e., bleeding size), print size (i.e., paper size) Settings, many people are easy to confuse, the page size is equivalent to paper size. Cause some confusion when exporting. Well, there's a difference.
① Page size should generally be set for the finished product size. Such as 16 open magazine page size should be set to 185mm×260mm, large 16 open should be set to 210mm×285mm.
(2) platemaking size refers to the size of the finished product on the basis of the bleeding. Generally, 3mm is added on each side on the basis of the finished product size.
③ The print size is the size of the printed paper or the output film. Due to the convenience of the output process in order to add some marks around the page such as cutting line, plate cross, gray ladder rule, color control bar, so print paper or output film size is larger than the page size, generally on the basis of the page size to increase 22.2mm ~ 30mm, so that the page complete print or output. If the size of the paper or film is not enough, will be printed, output prompts, reminders may print incomplete.
3. Check the illustrations in the page
1. Check the link of the image
If you are using PageMaker, Vyemaker, Vyemaker, Illustrator, etc., you must copy the linked image file and the format file together, check the link of the image, and pay attention to whether the image is in the same folder as the typesetting file.
Many designers ignore this aspect of checking because images can be linked to other places on their computer. But if you leave the machine, the image is not attached to the word, there will be no link and low resolution image output phenomenon. At this point, you should find the path of the image and re-establish the link. In addition, if the page illustration has been changed or deleted, you should re-link.
In the case of CorelDraw, you don't need to look at the link because it embeds the image into the page. As opposed to the above software for the image implementation of external links.
2. Check whether the color mode of the image is correct
Check whether the color illustrations used in the page are in CMYK mode. If they are in RGB mode or other modes, they should go back to Photoshop and be converted to CMYK mode. Otherwise, the color separation effect is not ideal or even only black plate has pictures on the color separation film. Check whether the black and white image is grayscale or monochrome bitmap.
3. Check whether the image format is correct
The image formats suitable for printing are TIFF and EPS. Generally, color bitmap images are stored in TIFF format, while vector graphics are stored in EPS format. Black-and-white images are best saved in TIFF format. If EPS format is required, they need to be converted to CMYK mode first, and then the contents of C, M, and Y channels are deleted. Be careful not to use JPEG compression, as this will cause the image to look sharp on the screen and blurry after output.
4. Check the image resolution
The image resolution should be set to 1.5 ~ 2 times the number of output plus network cables. Note that resolution is required only for bitmap images, not for vector graphics. [next]
Four, text, line, color block check
1. Font and text curve problems
Font It is best to use commonly used fonts, such as the square font and Wending font. Try not to use unusual fonts. If used, please attach fonts to the output center. If there is a complement file, the complement file should also be copied.
In CoreIDraw, Freehand, Illustrator and other vector graphics software input text if there is no special effect processing, it is recommended to turn into a curve, in order to avoid the output of the output center without this type of font. Curvilinear text may distort when viewed on the screen, but it will not affect the output.
Some fonts will become "hollow words" after the curve, such as italic_GB2312, imitative song _GB2312, Handing special black simple, Handing beauty black simple, should be used with caution. Some other English words after the curve of the intersection will also hollow out, should also pay attention to.
When you enter text in Photoshop, the text becomes part of the image when you combine the layers, so you don't need to turn curves.
2. Black text, lines, or color blocks
Check if the color of black text and lines in the page is four-color black (C100M100Y100K100), if so, change it to monochrome black K100. Single black shadow should also be turned to four color black, otherwise single black shadow will be other color plate hollowed out, printed out will be very ugly.
It should be noted that the corner line drawn by oneself should be set to four color black, not monochrome black, otherwise the output only black version with corner line.
Check whether it is set to overprint. General prepress software will automatically set black text, lines, color blocks to overprint, to prevent the phenomenon of white leakage in printing. But some software needs to set up, so it is best to check before output.
3. Pay attention to the anti-white text, line or color block check, for anti-white text, line or color block should be set to hollow rather than overprint. Otherwise these objects will be lost on output.
4. Other matters that should be noted ① do not do Heavy or Bold text processing because FreeHand Chinese fonts such as Heavy, it is easy to paste words; In PageMaker, if Bold is used in Chinese, it becomes a toothed overlapped word. In addition, FreeHand is best not to use Fill and Stroke (fill and word edge), because improper use is also easy to paste the word dead. ② Do not use the underline effect for Chinese text in PageMaker because the line will jump into the word when output is done. Hollow word effect is also best not to use. ③ When putting text input into PageMaker from a PC, delete Spaces and carriage returns in the text. Otherwise, garbled characters may appear. CorelDraw text typesetting, if the text is copied from Word or Notepad, need to remove double byte Spaces (using Word search/replace), otherwise prone to "rotten word" and out of place situation.
④ Check whether there are lines smaller than 0.076mm in the file. If so, please be appropriately bold, because the line width is less than 0.076mm, it is easy to be exposed when printing, but also difficult to print out.
Five, trap (make up the leakage of white) inspection
When the pattern in the page has two colors overlapping, in order to avoid the phenomenon of white leakage during printing, should be set at the intersection of colors. Don't forget this item when you check. Trap Settings are available in PageMaker, CorelDraw, Illustrator, Indesign, Fly, etc., and can also be set in RIP at output time.
The main parameter to set is "trap width". The value depends on the printing process used. Generally, the width of offset printing is 0.063mm ~ 0.127mm, gravure printing and flexo printing is larger, in the range of 0.2mm ~ 0.3mm, according to the printing accuracy or customer requirements.
Six, check the color separation situation, to confirm the four-color or with spot color processing
Do not confuse special colors (spot colors) with printed colors when setting colors. For four-color printing, an image, no matter how complex the color, only need to output C, M, Y, K four color separators. But each spot color has to output a color separator, at this time if the four colors are mistaken for spot color, according to the spot color output, it is possible to output more than a dozen spot color separators.
In prepress applications, spot colors and print colors are labeled differently. In general, the colors in the default palette are printed colors, and the colors in the ink color library are spot colors.
The above is my work in some experience summary, shortcomings, please peer criticism and correction.
