We usually refer to the icc property file as the device property file, because usually the icc file is a file that describes the range of colors that a specific device (scanner, monitor, printer, etc.) can display and the relationship between this color range and the Lab color mode. But in fact, icc feature files are not only device features, but also some other types of feature files.
The international union of colour (InternationalColorConsorium) by the ICC file, there are 7 different kinds of types. They are: input device feature file, display device feature file, output device feature file (the above is the device feature file), device connection feature file, color space conversion feature file, abstract feature file, named color feature file.
Enter the device properties file
Enter the device characteristics file, which is commonly known as the icc file for scanners and digital cameras. In theory, the icc file of the input device supports grayscale, RGB colors, CMYK colors, and multi-channel color input devices. But in actual use, only RGB color icc files are used. Moreover, there is currently no software that can make grayscale or CMYK or multi-channel ICCs.
The input device icc file is a dedicated file that can only be used on the input device (e.g. added in Control Panel/Scanner Properties/Color management)
Although the input device icc is also an RGB icc file, it cannot be set for use in photoshop and other software RGB workspaces (photoshop Color Management /RGB Workspace Settings). RGB workspaces for applications such as photoshop must use display device properties files.
In photoshop, to use the input device icc file for the image, you can only select the "Specify as profile" command to specify the color space of the image as the input device icc file (the "Convert to profile" command cannot use the input device icc file).
This is a headache for many digital photographers, the digital camera itself is not able to sneak into your special icc file, and directly specify the photo to the RGB color space set by photoshop, and will make the image color change. Therefore, the pictures taken must be specified in photoshop one by one as the input device icc file, of course, you can also use photoshop batch to batch specify the configuration file.
If the digital camera uses RAW format shooting, you can use the color setting function of CaptureOne software to specify the RAW format pictures taken by the digital camera as special feature files, and then convert the pictures to the phtotshop workspace through the rinse command. This avoids the color bias caused by directly designating the picture as a phtotshop workspace
