Stuffing Paper the most demanding technique in printing industry, will you?

No matter how good the original version or how accurate the digital plate data, if you can not produce a high-precision plate roller, still can not guarantee the quality of print. In this respect, intaglio can be said to be the most stringent requirements of all kinds of printers. This paper introduces the production process of the roller.

1. Production of drum matrix

Drum matrix material is generally steel pipe, the reason is that the steel pipe price is low and strong. Weights RANGE FROM 10KG (PACKAGING gravure printing) to several hundred kg (publishing, building materials gravure printing), some depending on the printing needs can weigh up to 1 ton. In recent years, packaging gravure printing is using aluminum materials to make the drum, especially the recent use of plastic drum.

The wall thickness of the steel tubes ranges from 20mm to 30mm, and larger rollers are thicker. The drum is divided into shaftless (mainly packaging gravure) and shafted.

2. Drum copper plating

No matter what kind of drum substrate material (as long as it can meet the requirements), the surface of the newly processed drum should be plated with copper. This bottom copper layer is not used for engraving or etching, but is used to achieve the precision requirements of the drum, for example, which require the diameter tolerance to be within 10μm and the parallelism to be no more than 10μm. The thickness of the copper layer should be about 600μm. Next, the copper layer is plated with a layer of corrosion and engraving necessary copper layer, thickness varies with various specifications of the plate cylinder, generally about 80μm. Electrocarving process must be plated hard copper.

3, Gift Box Stuffing Paper printing plate image production

After the complete copper plating on the drum, it is necessary to make an image on the drum. The methods are as follows: ① the method of using the anti-corrosion film. Transfer or coating anticorrosive film on copper layer or use carbon paper, photosensitive resin sun image; Image is laser formed using a high sensitivity resin or black primer, then chemically etched using ferric chloride through a resistant film. ② The method of carving. Carved directly on the copper layer without treatment. Although there are some methods to replace copper plating with alloy or resin layers and to form images by laser, most of them are still under development.

The depth of the mesh formed on the drum generally ranges from a few μm to 60μm. Mesh density is usually in the range of 2500-10000 mesh/cm2, and the use of laser mode can further improve the mesh density value.

4, chromium plating treatment

After the formation of mesh on the copper layer, the drum production is completed. However, when the ink falls on the non-mesh part of the surface of the copper layer in the printing process, the copper surface is easy to be scratched by the scraper, so a layer of about 10μm chromium should be plated on the surface of the copper layer. At this point, a gravure printing plate cylinder was made.

Stuffing Paper technology for intaglio plate making has made great progress in pre-press digital environment. In recent years the technical trend is the printing plate roller production of full automation. In chemical etching process, laser can make the detail reproduction better. If possible, it is hoped that the chemical etching method will be eliminated in the future.
