In PageMaker 6.0 or above, there is an enhancement tool called Update PPD, which is used to query the available memory and font information of a phototypesetter or printer and create a "custom PPD" with the change information.

Customer files often have multiple manufacturers of Chinese and English fonts, and the output center of the RIP software or phototypesetter font library is only one or two manufacturers of the font library, then the file is only downloaded for Chinese and English fonts, PPD software will download all Chinese or all English, although it can also be output but at the same time hidden many problems. For example, the speed of downloading all fonts is very slow and the downloaded fonts are TrueTyPe format fonts, which sometimes causes font out-of-place.

Individual fonts also lack strokes.

Update PPD is used to query the type and quantity of fonts in a phototypesetter or printer through the network. Form a new PPD when the font is selected to download PPD. The PPD indicates fonts that are not present in my phototypesetter or printer under the typesetter software. The existing fonts are no longer downloaded to meet the output requirements.

To update PPD on a MAC, select PS Printer8.3 in the selector, select the name of the phototypesetter or printer through APPjeTa, and then select "Enhancement Tool"/" Update PPD "in the PageMaker software. Then select the PPD to be updated, such as "SciteXDolev800", and select "including printer hard disk font" in the "Options" to generate a PPD with "*" that is, the updated PPD.
