Tweaking Gift Boxes For Greetings Touch up underexposed picture techniques

In prepress design, some under-exposed original pictures are often encountered. If they are put into the design manuscript intact, they will not only affect the effect of the entire design layout, but also destroy the creative taste of the designers. The magic of Photoshop is that it allows you to easily adjust underexposed images so that they look as good as possible.

1. The underexposed picture is scanned and entered into the computer

A photo taken with a digital camera is entered into a computer and opened in Photoshop. Scanning image setting scan resolution should not be sloppy at all, because it directly controls the reimaging quality. Generally speaking, the following principles are adhered to:

① When the scanned image is used for color printing, the resolution of the color printing printer and the scaling factor of the image should be taken into account. The resolution of color inkjet printer refers to the output accuracy of various colors. It is not the resolution in the real sense. The resolution of the printer is divided by the color number of the printer. For example, four-color printers labeled with resolution of 720dpi or 1400dpi have effective accuracy of 180dpi and 350dpi.

If the original size print output, scan resolution as long as equal to the effective accuracy of the printer. If the image to zoom printing, scanning resolution =  output size present the artwork size scaling coefficient x printer accuracy effectively.

② When the scanned image is used for printing, the number of printing lines and image scaling coefficient should be taken into account. Printing line number the printer can print in every inch, how many mesh unit, the unit for l/in  lpi; Scaling factor = output size ÷ original size. In case of equal printing, scanning resolution = number of printing lines ×2. Like newspaper printing line number is 85 lpi  general color print is 150 lpi; Fine album is 300lpi, then the corresponding resolution is: 175dpi, 300dpi, 600dpi. When zooming in printing, scanning resolution = printing line number x 2 x zoom factor  output size present original size. In determining the printing of the network cable problem, do not just pursue the number of network cables the greater the better, although the number of network cables is larger, in the performance of image level and details is indeed much richer, but prepress design should be fully considered what kind of paper printing is used, such as in newsprint printing network cable 175l image, not only can not get exquisite effect, Instead, the image will be blurred, which is counterproductive. The author's personal experience that: choose newsprint or offset paper offset printing, printing network cable is 80-100L; Therefore, the resolution should be between 160dpi and 200dpi;  when choose below 210 g coated paper color printing printing cable up to 175 l  the resolution should be between 200 dpi ~ 300 dpi, high-grade copper plate paper chooses more than 210 g of cables can be appropriately set higher when the color printing. In short, the resolution set too high will cause a waste of time, too low will affect the printing effect.

(3) When the scanned image is displayed on the screen, generally speaking, if the display is equal to large, the scanning resolution is set to 72dpi; If scaling display, its resolution is set to: 72dpi x scaling factor.

Open an image file in Photoshop that is too dark because the subject is under-exposed due to backlight.

2. Execute the Image/Copy command to copy the currently operated image as a separate copy. Click the "OK" button in the pop-up dialog box and make a copy of the image.

3. Run the "image"/" mode "/" grayscale "command to convert the copied image mode from RGB to grayscale.

4. "Fuzzy" perform "filter" / / "gaussian blur," according to the size of the image will blur the radius is set to the appropriate value between 3 ~ 6 after  fuzzy radius of 4.0 in this case, the proper fuzzy images.

5. Now switch the current operation file to the original image file, execute the "Select"/" Load selection "command, the" Load selection "dialog box will pop up. In Document set to the file name of the copied image copy; Select "Gray level" in "Channel"; Then select the "reverse phase"; Select New Selection from the Action option. After all Settings are completed, press "OK" to confirm and load the selection into the image. At the same time, it can be clearly seen that the selection at this time is just the under-exposed part of the image.

6. To convert the current operation file to the copy image file, press Ctrl+W to close the image file. At this time, you will be prompted whether to save the image file. Select No.

7. Run the Edit/Fill command. The Fill dialog box is displayed, in which you can set the related options. In Use, select 50% Grey. Select "Color Dodge" from "Mode". In Opacity, set it to 100%.

8. Once the Settings are complete, click OK to fill the selection of the image. Press Ctrl+D to deselect the selection.

With these eight steps, it's easy to turn a bad photo into a good one. With the adjustment, the brightness of the underexposed parts of the original image was increased, allowing sufficient detail in the shadow range without affecting the brightness of the rest of the image.
